The original version of this song was recorded onto my trusty Tascam Portastudio 464 and was a very cocky Led Zeppelin inspired track with drums that almost worked. Going over some old cassettes, I was impressed by my own lyrics enough to resurrect it. The music had to go though and I started over with the student model Yamaha acoustic that was within arms reach and turned it promptly into this surf punk jam that I am pleased with. You might notice the mix is weird... Well this was during a hard time and I was losing my hearing due to all my years in the ocean surfing down in Pierpont. I had already had a surgery on my right ear and now my left one had gotten to the point that it was nearly out completely. This song was recorded and mixed with one ear!
I just left the drum mix in the position i found it in and flipped the head phones around and mixed both left and right sides with my left ear. So yea, it sounds funny. Not to mention that I was getting depressed about the whole thing and had to put some "who gives a shit" attitude into it just to get it down. I have had my ears both chiseled out now and look back on this as something of a victory. I have stereo hearing again and a new appreciation for the echo location skills we take for granted. The whole ordeal chewed up two years or more and its good to be back. So just for fun. Plug your left ear and hear it the way it was made ha ha ...yikes! B.
P.S. ironically the song is about the ocean and the schoolhouse jetty I surfed all those years.
lyrics
Some of you stood on the rocks
Some of you've taken the time
To know the water don't stop
Don't even think it unkind
I know you can't help but look
At your reflection below
Under the currents are cooking baby
And pretty soon you will know
As a young man I have loved her
As a young man I adored
As an old man I'm a slave to her
And I fear...her jealous ...soul.....her jealous ...soul....
Whether you wrong or you right
Suggest you do what you can
To stay clear of the water tonight
Somebody's thinking that they're better than..
I know you can't help but look
at you're reflection below
Under the currents are cooking baby
And pretty soon you will know
And as a young man I loved her
As an old man I adored
As an old man I'm a slave to her
And I fear .. Her jealous soul.....
