A while back, my wife and kids were out to visit relatives for a week and I had a lot of studio time to myself. This was the perfect time to work on a project I have been thinking about for a long time. I have a 1952 Hammond C-3 and I really wanted to make something that feels like a lost Jimmy Smith track or at least a Beastie Boys thrift store sheik version if you know what I mean.... Well I cleaned up the studio and twisted some knobs and mic'd up the organ and ...... Nothing. . . It broke.
Such an incredible bummer, I can't even describe it. It's still broke and I have no idea what do do about it. Anyway, feeling dejected I go upstairs only to realize that the house is indeed empty and my peoples are gone....I finally get guilt-free studio time and I am seasick missing the fam. How pathetic. O.K. So I throw myself back into the studio and this song is the result. It took two days to get the feel right and the key was realizing that it sounded cool to use the top of the bass drum for a percussive element eliminating the noisy high hats and making room for the mood here.
