It happened. This song put me into a weird state. I couldn't get through it without making guitar flubs. Take after take I kept messing it up. So I gave up. I went upstairs and had dinner and two beers (India pale ale extra hoppy) ... Eventually during a commercial break or something I found my way back into the studio. (I leave everything on and ready to go in case I do this.) I sat down hit the big red button and got this in one take (the guitar and vocals, I mean....the rest is added afterward).
Here's the problem. I went off the rails into cursing a few times and got one of the lines totally wrong..... But, I like this take the best....and I'm not willing to redo it. Want to know why? It's a mood thing. The song was hanging in the air that night. I feel like some strange spirits were moving around this whole song and studio and my monkey brain and I need to respect it and leave it alone. I dunno why, but I do. And I feel very attached to this particular song how it is. There's a lot in there.
lyrics
Born upon a forest maze
The man who worked the post was away
They said it was a hollow place
I think that my soul will be safe...hold on....hold on..
A tattoo of a horse and sage
Remind me that we fade away
Images of war and hate
Rise above a carnival stage..so hold on... Hold on ....hold
Fishermen we like it this way
We need excuses to get out hook in place
Making the timing straight
Where even a rock will erase.. hold on.... Hold on ....hold..
Yea they say it's an acquired taste
We're canning up the human race
Where if the killing is clean then god be praised
We're breaking your soul down today.. Hold on.. Hold on..
I sit in a hollow tree
Watching what you done to me
I wonder if I know who to trust
Watching the dawn turn to dust hold on hold... Hold
Born of a fucking maze
the man who worked the post was away
They say it is a hollow place
I believe that my soul will be safe
A tattoo of a horse and sage
Remind me that we fade away
The images of war and hate
Rise above a carnival state
